Made by the L. G. Wright Glass Co. of New Martinsville, West Virginia this blue and white slag piece is based on the 1887 Atterbury Duck Covered Dish design by Thomas B. Atterbury of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
While LG Wright owned the molds they sought out other American glass companies to create their pieces. We are not sure who manufactured this piece (not marked) but it certainly is beautiful, with its sharp detail and milk glass marble-like lines and swirls. The duck does not have an eye and, as many ducks were made "eyed or without", this is probably how it was manufactured. Adding glass eyes would, of course, give the duck a more life-like quality.
Origin: West Virginia, USA; pre-owned
Dimensions: 11"L x 4"W x 5"H
Condition: Very Good/ Great. There are two 1/8" to 1/4" nicks to the inside rim of the dish (see photos, between the grey marker dots); they are in the dark blue area and not easily seen, but evident when felt. Otherwise this unique piece is free of any other issues or wear.
