Many bone china floral bouquets (clusters) are known for having chips or nicks due to their age and extreme delicateness; this piece is no different and there are a few issues. There are also two fractures to the base, on opposite ends, and a u-shaped missing piece of the ceramic edge.
What is unique to this piece is that the nicks/chips are overwhelmed by the unique, large size of the bouquet and the undeniable beauty and colors of the piece. The flowers fall over the base edge and one's vision is drawn to the flowers, and not the base. A very pretty, hard-to-find large piece.
The date of manufacture is believed to be from 1964 to the mid-1970's. The Royal Adderley mark, dated to 1964, was used by Ridgeway Potteries until the business became a part of Royal Doulton in 1972. We have seen the base of this piece on Royal Doulton floral clusters and feel this was manufactured under Royal Doulton's ownership until the mid-1970's.
Origin: England; pre-owned
Dimensions: 8"H x 6"H
Condition: Very Good. We have marked the fractures and chips with black arrows and the nicks with thinner blue arrows. We counted two fractures plus one large missing piece to the base, one chip to the yellow and red (underside of rose petal) flowers, nicks to the white/crimson carnation front, the same red rose, and the large top pink/red flower petal.
NOTE: Many of the photos repeat the arrows. There are not many chips as the photos may imply.
We did note some a crack-like appearance to the clay filling that holds the flowers in place, but we think this is normal from production as the clay is fully glazed over.
Overall, this is a really beautiful piece. The colors are vivid, the flowers are polished, and there are no loose flower stems from the inside.
