A stunning piece of artistry and design.
Two ferocious looking gilded serpent/dragons (one turned to the front and one to the back), claws and fangs detailed, serve as the handles of this breathtakingly painted vase. Against a lightly painted marbleized porcelain background are drawn bold, dramatic roses which break though dimly colored and pale, light grey and green leaves.
The backside, in stark contrast to the front, bears little--light grey leaves and a faint, lightly drawn drooping pink rose, held by a vivid green stem. Polished with a marble feel this gold gilded vase is such a unique, striking piece from the Pouyat factory at Limoges.
The underside bears the green mark which dates from 1890 to 1932. Along with the mark are four impressions that appear to be the number "1".

Condition: Great. Light gold loss spots on the dragon spine spikes (both) are noted.
While the paint used on the red roses is intact, we noticed what appears to be light raised spots of glaze which are intact and smooth in feel (no loss). We are not sure if this is just a reflection from heavier color strokes or whether it is a reaction between the glaze and an element used in the paint. The overall feel, again, is smooth and intact.
No other issues are noted. The vase is clean, the floral detail appears sharp and vivid.
