Coiffe/ LRL FRANCE Limoges Hand Painted 20" Platter for Victor Freisinger Import. c. 1891-1914.

Quality maker of Limoges porcelain, the Coiffe factory made blanks that were often hand painted by other French companies. This striking antique platter is heavy and quite large, and was decorated by Lazeyras, Rosenfeld, & Lehman (LRL) artist "Muville" for American jeweler and importer of art goods, Victor Freisinger.

A scalloped, heavily gilded border and embossed leaf detail surrounds the pink, yellow, and violet floral artwork. An impressive note, and with a nod to the Coiffe factory, are the platter drain channels which flow excess meat fat into the well on the left.

Although beautifully made, while the well and channels are glazed, the floral area has a lighter feel, something we are not sure is suitable for modern food use. Our recommendation is that this piece serves best as a shelf or sideboard decoration.

Condition: Very Good/ Great. One small chip to the underside tip of the rim; small gold speck loss is seen to some rim edges. There are no cracks, stains or crazing, and the platter is clean, and the colors are vivid.
